Ariel and Garth are getting married

16 April, 2016

We're getting married!

Ariel Ilana Horowitz and Garth Westervelt Griffin met in 2008 at Swarthmore College, a tiny nature preserve for intellectual oddballs. As is common for Swathmore, they were introduced through several different routes. The pair had many mutual friends, which is hard to avoid with a student population of only 1500. In particular, Ariel's roommate played in the college jazz band with Garth. At the same time, Garth was in the cast of a musical that Ariel worked on as a costume assistant. As a result, Ariel has been folding Garth's socks since before they were even dating. She made the first move but he kissed her first, on 13 April, 2008.

Garth and Ariel dated for the rest of their time at Swarthmore. In 2010, they moved together to the Boston area, where they reside with their two cats (Charles Babbage and Ada "Lacey" Byron Lovelace). Garth proposed in January of 2015 with a beautiful ring and a recording he had made of the jazz standard One Note Samba. Garth and Ariel are excited to welcome their friends and family to the Berkshires to celebrate on 16 April, 2016!

Our new last name

As they create their new family unit, Garth and Ariel have decided to both adopt a new surname. They will hyphenate with their current names.
